Watch: Malta’s Massive ‘Ħarq Ħamiem’ Cave Littered With Trash And Graffiti On The Walls
Malta’s massive ‘Ħarq Ħamiem’ cave in St Julian’s has been littered with illegal dumping and graffiti on the cave walls.
A local photographer sent exclusive photos and videos to Lovin Malta of the shocking and current state of the cave.
“I recently visited Ħarq Ħamiem cave and noticed a lot of rubbish and also graffiti,” the man told Lovin Malta.
In the footage, what looks like metal barrels can be seen submerged in the cave’s water, along with a plastic chair, bucket, and what appears to be a rubber raft. On the cave’s walls, a series of illegible graffiti can be seen sprawled on it.
Ħarq Ħamiem cave is said to be the only known fully submerged terrestrial cavern in the Maltese islands, and the largest one.
Located on the northside of St George’s Bay in St Julian’s, Ħarq Ħamiem is an incredibly unique yet mostly inaccessible cave, reaching a maximum depth of 52 metres.
