Watch: Over Two Tonnes Of Waste Collected From Isla’s Seabed
Over two tonnes of waste were recently collected from Isla’s seabed by a group of around 20 volunteers.
The clean-up was organised by Parks Malta, ERA, and the Energy and Water Agency, directly collaborating with environmentalist and advanced diver Raniero Borg and a group of other entities.
Borg uploaded footage documenting the entire clean-up on his social media page, Raniero’s Adventures – Live Life, showing the journey to gathering the 2,000 tonnes of waste.
“While we gathered large quantities of waste from the sea, we gathered glass bottles, metals, plastic pipes, a number of chairs, batteries, ropes, tyres as well as a bath,” Borg wrote on social media.
For the clean-up, there were a number of participants contributing in different forms, from snorkelling, and diving, to land clean-ups.
“We decided to organise this campaign to continue to raise more awareness on keeping our recreational spaces clean,” Minister Miriam Dalli stated.
For each tonne of waste that was collected, the Ministry also pledged to plant one tree.
This event was possible due to the participation of a number of local entities and organisations including the Isla Local Council, Customs, Din l’Art Ħelwa, Water Services Corporation, Raniero’s Adventures, Emergency Fire and Rescue Unit, No To Plastic Malta, ATLAM, Paulus, Paradise Diving School and Transport Malta.
Well done to all those involved!
