Watch: Over A Tonne Of Waste Cleared From Exiles Coast And Sea In Latest Clean-Up
Over a tonne of waste, 1,083kgs to be exact, was cleared from land and sea surrounding Exiles in Sliema in one of the latest clean-ups led by local organisation Coast is Clear.
With 12 clean-ups organised by Coast is Clear during the month of September, this one was done in collaboration with Reġjun Lvant and the Sliema Local Council.
During the clean-up, many residents participated, along with councillors, students from the Verdala International School, and volunteers from Coast is Clear.
“We had 55 volunteers cleaning the coast from Balluta to Surfside, and a couple of divers clearing the seabed from Balluta to Exiles,” founder Mark Galea Pace told Lovin Malta.
42 garbage bags full of litter and bulky rubbish were cleared from land by the volunteers, totalling a whopping 612kgs.
Meanwhile, two large ladders, two massive umbrellas, various metals as well as two large garbage bags full of ropes and plastics were collected from the seabed, weighing 471kgs.
As a result, a truck load of metal and wooden waste was filled, along with one large skip of generic waste, with the volunteers also power washing the stairs and adjacent areas.
Well done to all involved! Have you ever attended a clean-up?
