Watch: ‘Resist Comfort And Silence’ – Maltese Activist Appeals For Burning Man To Act On Climate Change
A Maltese climate activist is currently leading the appeal for Burning Man to fulfill its duty of taking and initiating action in the face of climate and ecological breakdown.
Led by Maltese entrepreneur-turned-activist Tommy Diacono on behalf of Seven Circles Alliance, the movement is set to employ direct action to bring class consciousness.
“Liberty at the cost of future generations is not liberty. It’s tyranny,” he said in a video uploaded on Instagram.
“This is a call to action. Burning Man was born out of the understanding that the default world is inhumane. For decades we have participated in a social experiment, and it has served as a guiding light for personal and collective liberation.”
“It has illuminated the beauty of community and instilled in us the belief that we can reshape society through bold principles that challenge status quo.”
“The time has come to make this a reality. Burning Man has a duty to act. We are facing climate and ecological breakdown and our economic system is the driving force,” he continued.
“As a conscious community, we must:
- Be radically honest, admit that infinite growth is incompatible with sustaining earth systems and that the green transition is a lie perpetuated by those in power. Burning Man must advocate for system change on both political and economic levels.
- Mobilise our community. Formally issue a call to action to the burning man community urging burners to actively participate in direct action and support general strikes to initiate system change. This effort should be done in collaboration with existing social justice and environmental movements.
- We need to lead by example. Ban private jets, single use plastics, unnecessary propane burning, and unlimited generator use per capita.”
“Our ancestors and future generations are calling on us to resist comfort and silence.”
This came after Diacono was among a group of climate activists arrested in Nevada, USA, earlier this week after they blocked the road to Burning Man festival.
The climate blockade led to miles-long traffic and rangers to be called in, with police eventually ramming the blockade and injuring one of the women present.
Since then, the ordeal has been widely reported on main international media channels, as the pressure continues to mount.
