Watch: Strong Sewage Stench Fills Ġnejna Bay As Seawater Turns Murky Brown

Beachgoers were met with quite an unpleasant sight and smell this morning upon arriving at Mġarr’s Ġnejna, as what appears to be sewage has taken over the right side of the bay.
Photos and videos sent to Lovin Malta this morning show the sea water turning into a murky brown, as sources informed the newsroom that the stench is unbearable.
The area is usually known for its pristine and clear waters, with colours often a bright and crystal blue.
“It was absolutely disgusting this morning. In all my years going to Ġnejna, I’ve never encountered such sewage,” they told Lovin Malta.
So far, no notice or warning has been published by the Environmental Health Directorate about the area. Lovin Malta will be forwarding the information to the directorate so that action can be taken.
It is unclear where the sewage is originating from. Meanwhile, the Water Services Corporation informed Lovin Malta that no mains falling under their remit are situated there.
For the time being, bathers are advised to avoid the area.
