Works on the Ta’ Giorni Urban Greening Project have been put on hold indefinitely after a court-issued injunction was filed by Madliena Developments Ltd, which claims ownership of the land.

The injunction, upheld by the Court pending a final decision on the dispute, affects both Project Green and the Lands Authority, effectively halting all activity on site.

The Ta’ Giorni Regeneration Project, launched in 2024, was part of Project Green’s nationwide effort to turn underutilised urban spaces into accessible green areas for the community.

Plans included creating a dynamic and aesthetically pleasing environment that encourages community engagement and recreational activities in one of St. Julian’s most densely built areas. Before the injunction, site preparation, hoarding, and clearance had already begun.

“While we are disappointed that the project cannot proceed as planned, we must respect the Court’s decision and allow the legal process to conclude,” said Joseph Cuschieri, CEO of Project Green.

He added that the agency remains committed to transparency and to pursuing future opportunities to bring green spaces closer to communities while the judicial process continues.
