Xagħra Mayor Strongly Condemns Off-Roading On Ramla Bay As Police Search For Driver

Xagħra mayor Christian Zammit has strongly condemned the illegal off-roading that recently took place at the protected Ramla Bay in Gozo.

Photos shared with Lovin Malta show a pick-up truck offroading on the sandy beach, which is also a protected Natura 2000 site.

“I condemn this illegal act. Ramla is the only large sandy beach in Gozo, it’s a Natura 2000 site and it needs to be protected by all means,” Zammit told Lovin Malta.

“I informed the police yesterday afternoon, and I hope this person gets the punishment they deserve,” he said.

“This action follows the tragic event of the graffiti left on the Ġgantija stones a few days ago. These are sites that need to be protected at all costs,” he appealed.

The sand dunes leading down to the beach, as well as the green areas, are all protected, and the bay is regarded as an ecologically sensitive area.
