Xjenza Malta Becomes First Gov Agency To Give Staff E-Bikes For Commuting

In a move that could set the standard for public sector sustainability, Xjenza Malta has officially become the first government-backed agency in Malta to provide electric motorbikes to its employees—aimed at cutting down traffic and emissions while promoting greener commuting.

As of this week, staff at Xjenza Malta can hop on electric motorbikes to run office errands or commute to work, ditching fuel-powered transport in favour of cleaner, smarter alternatives.

“We’re excited to be leading the charge,” said Silvio Scerri, CEO of Xjenza Malta. “It’s all about reducing our environmental footprint and offering a practical, fun way for employees to get around. We hope this inspires other organisations to follow suit.”

But that’s not all. To further boost its commitment to sustainable mobility, the agency has also installed electric car charging stations on site—available during office hours for staff who’ve made the switch to EVs.

“Our efforts go beyond just bikes,” Scerri continued. “With these new charging stations, we’re making sure anyone who’s already driving electric is supported too. It’s about making the transition as seamless as possible.”

The initiative fits in perfectly with Malta’s wider push toward greener transport solutions—particularly the government’s recent efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote e-mobility across the board.

From supporting young people with mopeds and electric bikes to encouraging EV adoption in the workplace, Xjenza Malta is setting the tone for what eco-conscious leadership looks like in the public sector.

Let’s hope more follow their lead.
