Żebbuġ Valleys Finally Cleaned After Massive Rubbish Removal

Żebbuġ residents can finally breathe a little easier after more than three skips’ worth of rubbish was removed from Wied San Anton in the San Blas neighbourhood this week, thanks to a crane and a major clean-up effort.

Mayor Steve Zammit Lupi didn’t hold back his frustration about the illegal dumping. “What are you gaining out of that?” he asked on social media, pointing out that anyone dumping waste into the valley would literally have to throw it down a three-storey height.

The council, which has been tackling illegal dumping for years, has previously removed literal tonnes of rubbish from Żebbuġ’s valleys and countryside.

“I can now say these valleys are clean. We will keep working to ensure they remain clean, but we need everyone’s cooperation,” Zammit Lupi added.

The massive San Blas clean-up was managed by the local council alongside the Reġjun Punent (Western Region) council, with funding provided by the central government.

It’s a reminder that keeping Malta’s valleys clean is hard work, and sometimes requires a crane.
