The Busker will represent Malta at the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest after winning tonight’s national competition with their song Dance (Our Own Party).

The trio – composed of singer Dav Jr, saxophonist Sean Meachen and drummer Jean Paul Borg – will travel to Liverpool to compete in the first semi-final on 9th May and will hope to qualify to the final on 13th May.

Although the band has been around for a while, this was its first foray into the Eurovision scene, bucking a trend among popular local bands to stay away from the contest.

They absolutely nailed their performance and finished in first place with 121 points, including a mammoth 80 points from the public vote. Ryan Hili’s powerful ballad In The Silence finished second with 85 points, while MATT BLXCK’s quirky song Up finished third with 76 points.

The Busker becomes the first band to represent Malta at the Eurovision since Firelight in 2014.
