Malta Last, Israel First: Eurovision’s Second Semi Final Points Revealed
Now the dust is slowly starting to settle on the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest which ended last night with the triumph of Switzerland’s Nemo, we now have more information about the nights that led up to Saturday’s Grand Final… and it’s not looking too great for Malta.
Despite a stellar performance which saw her open Thursday’s Semi Final 2, Malta’s Sarah Bonnici actually placed dead last with 13 points, with only four countries awarding us any points. These were France (a Big Five country which awarded us one point), Greece with three points, San Marino with four, and Armenia with five.
Meanwhile, on the other end of the spectrum, despite various controversies and an eventual final placing of fifth, Israel’s Eden Golan actually ended up winning the night on Thursday, getting a whopping total of 194 points. This placed it just above The Netherlands, whose Joost Klein got 182 points… and then ended up being disqualified ahead of last night after allegations of an altercation with a female member of the Swedish production crew.

Every single country gave Israel high points, with Armenia giving Eden six points, Estonia eight, and the others all sending either 10 or 12 points. Malta gave Israel 10 points. And while many national juries did not even give Israel a single point (with some exceptions kicking off, funnily enough, with Malta’s three points), Israel dominated the televoting on Saturday as well, earning a massive 323 points from the public (in contrast to just 52 from the jury).
And while Malta’s placement is less than ideal, there were actually two other countries that scored even lower points, this time in the first Semi Final: Azerbaijan with 11 points, and – the country with the least total points in the whole competition this year – Iceland with a measly three points.
