Peppi Azzopardi Calls Out ‘Elitists’ Who ‘Look Down On Eurovision’

Peppi Azzopardi has taken to Facebook to call out the “elitists” who “look down on those thousands of people” who, like the former Xarabank presenter, “love Eurovision”.
Earlier today, the Xarabank Facebook page posted a statement penned by Azzopardi, who wrote that individuals who look down on Eurovision lovers are a “a bunch of elitists” who run with the narrative of “meeting up to watch the contest to have a good laugh,” but in reality love watching the contest.
“It hurts me when I see negative social media comments about the Eurovision, especially from individuals who clearly take pleasure in others’ failures,” the former presenter wrote, saying that “not everything was bad in this year’s edition”.
“On the contrary,” Azzopardi wrote, “there were some good and innovative ideas this year”.
For instance, “giving the singers €5,000 to produce a video of the song was an excellent idea,” he wrote, since this gave the singers the opportunity to produce “the best” quality videos.
“The presenters were among the best we have ever had,” Azzopardi continued, admitting his bias when making this statement since one of the contest’s presenters, Angie Laus, happens to be his colleague and manager.
He went on to praise the competition’s greenroom presenter Jamie Cardona, saying that his Eurovision dictionary feature was “a pleasure to watch”.
“What a pity that they didn’t have an audience,” Azzopardi concluded, adding that “the audience is the pulse of Eurovision.
“How can a singer perform in an empty studio without any sound, without any breath, without any applause, without any joy?” he asked.
Azopardi then went on to say that while the core ingredients of this year’s edition of the contest should be kept in future editions, an audience should be included.
“Do this, and it will be amazing,” he wrote.
