Sarah Bonnici’s “Loop” may be clutching at straws in the Eurovision 2024 betting odds, but a recent analysis by MyBettingSites’ supercomputer has just given Malta a sliver of hope.

In fact, Malta’s entry could be this year’s Eurovision winner, according to predictions derived from 70 years’ worth of data.

Ahead of the 2024 Eurovision in May, MyBettingSites‘ supercomputer delved deep into the contest’s history to predict this year’s potential winner using past statistics.

Based on an analysis of all previous winners since 1956 and their attributes, data shows that the typical Eurovision winner is female (58.5%), performs solo (72.5%), sings a pop song (45.7%) in English (49%), focusing on themes of love and relationships (62.1%), and falls between the ages of 25 and 27 (with an average age of 26.9 and a median of 25).

Additionally, 17.2% of past winners succeeded with a song beginning with the letters “D” or “T”.

From this year’s pool of contenders, Malta’s representative Sarah Bonnici embodies the most common traits (six) associated with Eurovision winners: a 25-year-old female solo performer who sings a pop song about love, romance, and relationships in English.

Georgia’s Nutsa Buzaladze with “Firefighter”, Denmark’s Saba with “Sand”, and the United Kingdom’s Olly Alexander with “Dizzy” all possess the second-most traits (five) typical for a Eurovision winner.

Although Sarah Bonnici has all the makings of a winner, the bookmakers have placed her last in a tie with Albania, Portugal, San Marino, and Moldova.

That being said, the supercomputer predictions show that Malta cannot be written off just yet because the game isn’t over until the final whistle.

Until then, we are all rooting for Sarah, who will be opening the second semi-final on 9th May.
