Christabelle’s team have just released the video for Taboo, the song that will be representing Malta during the Eurovision Song Contest this year.

Announced as the public’s winner last month, Christabelle’s dance catchy track had amassed an impressive total of 133 points.

The music video has some very strong Mad Max vibes to it, featuring everything from pink buzzcuts to post-apocalyptic jeeps. A large number of extras were involved in the shooting of the music video, which was also shot in numerous locations, from open locations straight out of Assassin’s Creed to nightclubs.

The song, of course, also carries the deeper meaning of dealing with the ‘taboo’ of speaking about mental health.

Filled with metaphors related to mental illnesses, the song features lyrics like “And I know, and I know, and I know that you see my life in foreign eyes,” and “Sticks and stones will break my soul/Gotta be your own miracle.” In fact, shortly after winning the Maltese competition,Christabelle was appointed the Special Ambassador for Mental Health of the President’s Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society by the President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca herself.

Earlier this week, three teasers of the music video from behind the scenes were shared online via the official Eurovision Song Malta Facebook page, each gaining thousands of views.

The full music video, though, is all set to take European platforms by storm.

Here’s hoping the video will push Christabelle’s song to the next level next May when she represents Malta in Portugal. Best of luck Christabelle!
