“Second place is beautiful and difficult at the same time because you are so close to winning,” he reflected.

The emotional rollercoaster didn’t end with the competition for Matt Blxck – he shared a deeply personal victory, saying, “On Friday my family received the best news. My mum, after more than three years battling with cancer, she is currently cancer-free.”

Last year, the singer landed in third place and managed to win the jury vote.

We managed to move a step further this year,” Matt Blxck stated, having secured the second place position this time around.

This year’s edition of the contest saw Sarah Bonnici winning the jury vote and Matt Blxck winning the televote –  however, this wasn’t enough for his to win the whole thing.

“I am so proud that the Maltese public decided to have my back and that it voted for something so different. And I believe that for Malta, this is a big thing,” the singer continued.

Matt Blxck also took a moment to acknowledge Sarah’s victory, sharing, “I am so so proud of Sarah and her win. I know Sarah on a personal level, and not just through the contest, and I can assure you that the girl is so passionate about her music.”
