The Busker has confirmed that they don’t intend to change their winning song Dance (Our Own Party) ahead of the Eurovision Song Contest.

“We’re in partnership with PBS and I must first and foremost thank them for taking us under their wing and guiding us,” saxophonist Sean Meachen said in an interview with TVMNews+.

“We’ll meet with them this week but public opinion has been taken and I don’t believe there will be several changes. Maybe there will be a few changes here and there, but at the end of the day, PBS will guide us and I believe we’ll reach the desired result.”

Dance (Our Own Party) stormed to victory last weekend, gaining 121 votes, including a whopping 80 votes from the general public.

If PBS doesn’t change The Busker’s song, it will be the first time since 2018 that Malta will contest a Eurovision song contest with a song that was selected by the Maltese public.

Emma Muscat’s winning song last year was changed, while Michela Pace’s and Destiny’s 2019 and 2021 songs were chosen internally, and the 2020 contest was scrapped due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dance (Our Own Party) has been praised for its fresh, fun and catchy tune, as well as for the energy displayed by the band on stage.

Vocalist Dav Jr wrote the song last summer, although he said it was originally composed with a completely different music structure and lyrics. When the band decided to contest the Eurovision, he and his The Busker teammates, along with singer-songwriter Matthew James Borg and DJ Michael Joe Cini (Micimago), got together to craft Dance.

Do you think The Busker will qualify for the Eurovision final?
