X Factor Malta Runner-Up Says Eurovision Doesn’t Interest Him After 4,000 People Sign Petition
X Factor Malta was set up to select Malta’s Eurovision representative, but it turns out the singer who finished second had no intention to enter the popular song contest in the first place.
“Just to make it clear, I am not interested in going to the Eurovision,” rapper Owen Leuellen wrote on social media. “I have other plans for my career. But thanks for all the support and for whoever voted. I’m super happy with my result and I’m proud to say I started from nothing and ended runner up for the first ever X Factor Malta.”
“However, for anyone who cares, I’m aiming in a different direction and that’s definitely not Eurovision… no offence intended to any ESC fan but it’s just not my type!”
Owen was forced to comment after over 4,000 people signed an online petition calling for him to join winner Michela Pace at the Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv this May.
His decision will mean one fewer problem for the PBS team, who will now have to pick a song for Michela.
