La Dolce Vita: Bulgari Brings Beautiful Design To Its Valletta Boutique
Taking a slice of Rome and placing it at the heart of Valletta, the Bulgari Valletta Boutique store perfectly encapsulates sunlight, marble and history.
Teaming up with the world-renowned architect Peter Marino, the newly refurbished Bulgari Valletta Boutique was opened to the public on Friday the 27th May.
Stepping foot into the Bulgari Boutique on Republic Street will instantly transport you to Rome. Dressed in warm tones that mimic the gorgeous golden skies synonymous with late afternoons in Rome – the Bulgari Valletta Boutique is an experience.
Taking elements from the original flagship Bulgari store in Rome’s Via Condotti, the interior windows act as a symbol that unites the beginnings of Bulgari with the future of Bulgari.
Using traditional artisan Italian to truly make the whole boutique pop, the walls are finished using the traditional encausto technique. When looking down you’ll be met with a fiery red eight-pointed star that symbolises the classic elegance that is synonymous with Bulgari.
Being known for beautiful shapes, unconventional use of materials and one-of-a-kind craftsmanship, Bulgari felt that a nod to the Italian designer of the 30s, 50s, and 60s was needed. That’s why their walnut wood showcase is inspired by Franco Albini while the marble showcase encapsulated Carlo Scarpa.
The Bulgari Boutique was originally opened in June of 2013. The first mono-brand Bulgari store was built right at the heart of Malta for a reason. Being built by gentlemen for gentlemen, only a city as grand and historic as Valletta could home the flagship Bulgari store in Malta.
Once the Bulgari Boutique was inaugurated, a celebration at the upper part of Teatru Rjal was kicked off. Lighting up the theatre in saffron hues to mimic the iconic Bulgari ambience, Cliff Zammit Stevens had the opportunity to share his rendition of some classic Italian pieces of music.
Accompanied by a live band, a violinist also treated the audience to some divine classical tunes.
Romina Grech Fenech, the CEO of Sterling Group says that they “are very proud to represent Bvlgari through such a beautiful ambience. We feel honoured that they chose Malta to implement a Peter Marino design, a concept which is represented in very few countries.”
