Dreams Of A Lost Civilisation: Charles & Ron Debut Their 2020 Spring/Summer Collection At New York Fashion Week
Charles & Ron always draw inspiration from the intrigues of their home islands, Malta and Gozo. Their latest collection, released just in time for Spring/Summer Season 2020, focuses on several aspects of Maltese history and culture.
Debuting the collection at New York Fashion Week last Saturday, Charles & Ron kept us all updated with the runway walks live on their Instagram stories
The inspiration for the collection started off from Malta’s wild flowers, blooming amongst the countryside in Spring. Some of the flowers in Malta tend to go unnoticed because of their small size, but thanks to Charles & Ron zooming in on them for #SS2020, we’ve had a reveal of beautiful shapes and colours.
As Charles & Ron put it: “As our environment, worldwide, faces many challenges, we have to do all we can to preserve these beautiful treasures.”
Other inspirations were drawn from the Neolithic period of Malta. Motifs like the Sleeping Lady of Ħal-Saflieni Hypogeum feature on the graphics printed, combined with aerial images of the Marsalforn salt pans and a number of indigenous flora.
C&R used silk twill and taffeta, corded silk, organza and chiffon with this collection, and their logo was embroidered onto denim for some of the male line. Tulle dresses were embellished with elaborate feather decorations and hand-beaded flowers.
