Italian Artist Inspired By Island’s Love For Lampuki Designs Beautifully Unique Denim Jacket
Santa Marija isn’t just one of the last (and biggest) dates in Malta’s summer festa schedule. The mid-August public holiday also marks the official start of the island’s lampuki season, a much celebrated time for local fishermen. But for one Italian artist, it proved to be the perfect muse for a gorgeous piece of clothing.
Valerio Ulys, a 23-year-old artist from Rome, has been sharing some awesome artworks, stickers and clothing on his Instagram account for the last year. His punk aesthetic has been spotted all around the Italian capital, but for his latest piece, Valerio took to the blue waters of our tiny island.
“I visited Malta last month and I really liked it,” Valerio told Lovin Malta. “I was inspired by the lampuki fish to make a jacket, a unique handmade piece.” The result is a glorious denim jacket with acrylic and Alcantara modifications. The colourful back and marine feel (faux fishing line included) really help make this the most Maltese-feeling jacket out there.

Beyond the beautifully crafted jacket, Valerio has also been sharing some pretty dope stuff on his Instagram account and Facebook page Atac Destroyed My Time.
The weird and wonderful pieces include similarly distressed and hand-edited denim jackets, alongside cool artworks of ninjas and crocodile-munching horses (yes, you read that right).
As far as Malta’s very own appearance on Valerio’s portfolio goes, though, you can contact the young Italian artist on Instagram or via email to get your hands on the unique handmade piece.
Let’s face it; this jacket is the perfect way to show your love for Malta’s favourite fish… or a great way to reconcile the fact that you’ve never managed to catch one yourself!
