Relive All The Nostalgia From Malta’s Past With These Liri Maltin Print Bikinis

Remember when one Maltese coin was worth enough to buy to buy a car and heavy enough to knock someone out? One fashion brand has reminded us of these simpler times with a nostalgic print on several bikinis and dresses at Malta Fashion Week 2018.
Isle&Aqua‘s runway featured prints from several old coins, most predominantly those with the qabru emblazoned on them, Malta’s freshwater crab and the face of the old 5ċ coin.
The coins aren’t necessarily to scale, and come in a selection of colours we didn’t see back when they had value, but the detailing around the edges is extremely recognisable, as are the flora and fauna we grew up exchanging for bubble gum, twistees and Pokemon cards.
Just in case you’re too young to remember, the old Maltese coins featured different plants and animals indigenous or endemic to the island.
The 1ċ had a ballottra (a type of ferret), the 2ċ an olive branch, 5ċ had the qabru (freshwater crab), 10ċ featured the lampuka, 25ċ and 50ċ both had plants (the ghirlanda and tulliera respectively) and finally the LM1 featured Malta’s beloved merill.
