8 Stores We Need In Malta ASAP

Article Featured Image

The popularity of online shopping has exploded in the last decade. We like lazy, convenient, limitless, not having to carry shit and most important of all, not having to make small talk with people we’ve unfriended on Facebook.

Yet sometimes, we just want to make an afternoon out of shopping (shopping shopping, not online shopping). We may actually need to try on things before receiving them in plastic bubble wrap. And sometimes, we simply refuse to wait for delivery, because we are Maltese and therefore, impatient.

Thus, here is a list of shops (among many others) we would love to have in Malta.

1. H&M

This Swedish clothing-retail company has over 4,000 stores worldwide, second only to the parent company of Zara. Selling a large assortment of clothes for every occasion at high-street prices. Although their main focus is on womenswear, they also offer menswear, childrenswear and home stuff. H&M also collaborates annually with luxury brands such as Balmain and Versace to launch a capsule collection of high-end style at affordable prices. Win-win.

Why do we still not have it again?

2. Primark

Our home away from home. The mother of cheap. Primark; the place Maltese flock to in order to be able to fill up a trolley of new wardrobe items without even looking at the price tags.

3. BOOTS

Anyone who has been to England and therefore, Primark, has stopped at Boots (most probably for some foot callus cream) the retailer where shoppers can find a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g health and beauty-related without having to take a loan or selling a kidney.

4. IKEA

Wohoo for Scandinavian design! IKEA, another Swedish company that made our list, offers cheap, ready-to-assemble furniture and house accessories, from sofas to toilet brushes. Simplicity is probably IKEA’s top design principle.

With most Maltese people shopping online and having IKEA products shipped from Sicily or the Netherlands, it would be great to step into one of their shops with our own feet. As anyone who has ever been to an IKEA store can confirm that the experience is so fun, it hurts. Or maybe it’s all the walking that hurts. Either way, we need it.

So enough with the betting companies already and bring IKEA to our shores.

5. VICTORIA’S SECRET

We’ve watched their fashion shows and hated their models, known as ‘angels’ (you in particular, Adriana Lima). More than bringing this franchise here for its somewhat overpriced underwear, swimwear, lingerie and perfumes, we need a Victoria’s Secret store for the experience itself. Known for its black and pink everything, chandeliers, cool music and video screens showing catwalks, it’s all rather fabulously flashy in small doses. Like the Eurovision.

Heck, we’d go for the changing rooms alone.

6. KIKO

The only good thing about a delayed flight is more time to test make up at KIKO. This leading Italian brand sells a wide range of cosmetics and skin-care products at fantastic prices, which is why we need it in Malta.

7. Decathlon

Europe’s number one sports retailer, offering a huge variety of sportswear and sports equipment which we lack here, at extremely affordable prices. Walking around a Decathlon stores is a workout in itself, kind of like a journey across a Mater Dei corridor. Yes please.

8. Charlie/Hugo’s Chocolate Factory

Ignore what was just said in the previous point, for we knew not what we were talking about. A flowing chocolate river, chocolate fondue fountain and Oompa Loompas serving us chocolate-covered everything is what we really need.

Hugo’s chocolate factory. #MakeItHappen.
