Triumphant Maltese Beauty Queen Shares Emotional Moment With Ukrainian And Russian Models
Maltese model Hannelie van Wyk shared an emotional moment with models from Russia and Ukraine after winning a prominent international beauty pageant this week.
Van Wyk was crowned Mrs European Nations CLQ during a beauty pageant in Athens, a competition for European models within the Mrs Globe Group.
Mrs Globe is an international competition that gives a platform to models who are 25-44 years old, and who are married, divorced or separated. This is the first time Malta has claimed victory within the Mrs Globe Group of pageants.
Ukraine’s Olena Savina finished in second place and Russia’s Julia Zhukevich came third, which meant that Van Wyk got to hold both their hands as they celebrated on stage.
The powerful symbolism of the moment wasn’t lost on her.
“It was quite emotional and symbolic. It’s like Malta in the middle holding hands with Ukraine and Russia, a safe place in the Mrs Globe world,” she told Lovin Malta.
Van Wyk will now represent Malta and Europe at the Mrs Globe competition in California in June 2024 and is actively working to persuade the Mrs Globe Group to host next year’s event in Malta.
“This would bring together delegates from all over Europe, showcasing our beautiful country on an international stage,” she said.
She thanked the Malta Tourism Authority for sponsoring and supporting her throughout her journey, as well as Mrs Malta Globe director Ekaterina Camilleri, who is also an artistic director of Mrs Globe World.
