Malta’s high population density, coupled with an insane amount of cars on the road, has lead to some pretty scary statistics. Apart from all that, pollution on our roads keeps getting worse and worse, with old cars that should have gone off the roads years ago still running around churning out smoke wherever they go. Instead of complaining whenever we spot one of these vehicles and not doing anything about it, now is the time to take matters into our own hands.

Transport Malta wants to remind people that they do have an Emission Alert SMS Number in place, and that any polluting vehicles should be reported through the number 5061 1899. It’s one thing to know about the problem, but another one to actively take part in coming up with the solution.

The old MEPA website also has an interesting article giving other suggestions on how people can do their bit to improve the quality of Malta’s environment, and some helpful tips include using public transport, carpooling where possible, and also not excluding walking as an option. In a small island and at a time when great weather is making a comeback, a walk really can hit the spot.

Tag a friend who has a shitty old car.
