Mostri is the “first creature feature” rooted in Maltese folklore to hit the island and it’s coming out soon.

It’s a Fantasy/horror Flick that tells the story of police inspector Frans and his ambition to prove that monsters exist and live among us,” producer and director Lawrence Sultana told Lovin Malta.

The film follows the protagonist Frans who witnessed his sister being devoured by a Belliegħa, otherwise known as a well serpent. However, no one believed him; accusing him that he pushed his sister in the well.

To prove his innocence, Frans began investigating a series of grisly murders and disappearances; convinced that these were the doings of monsters.

“Mostri came to be at a get-together. During this occasion, I met up with a dear friend, Mikiel Galea, who, at that time – alongside his colleague Guzi Gatt, was doing research on Maltese Mythical beings. Being an avid fan of such things, I was interested in doing something with this,” Sultana said.

“I own a production company alongside Kirk Attard called TalonHouse Pictures, which is involved mainly in movies, music, videos, TV programs, and more. So I told Kirk about the idea and Mostri was born.”

The film was chosen to be part of Malta’s Mediterrane Film Festival this year and it received high praise from the promoters and audience alike. Many appreciate that it’s different from what’s usually seen in Maltese cinema.

“One English producer even told us that it was a breath of fresh air from what he’s used to seeing here.”

The year 2024 is going to be a busy one for Mostri, with the movie participating in various festivals across the globe – namely New York’s Sci-fi/Fantasy/Horror and London’s Cinema of the Fantastic Festival.

It will also feature festivals in Asia, Europe, and South America.

The film will debut at Eden Cinemas on 1st November so stay tuned for the ticket releases.
