Film Commissioner Johann Grech has confirmed he would like one of the next James Bond movies to be shot in Malta.

“Getting the James Bond brand back to Malta is on my bucket list as Film Commissioner,” Grech said in an interview with Cinema Blend. “I literally wish we will achieve that one day.”

Although the 007 character has never actually visited Malta, the island has been used as a filming location for a number of James Bond films. At the end of The Spy Who Loved Me, the escape pod Roger Moore’s Bond uses to flee can be seen floating off the coast of Malta.

Scenes in Malta have also been shot in For Your Eyes Only and Casino Royale.

There has been no confirmation yet as to when the next James Bond film will be shot, but it will certainly feature a new 007, with Daniel Craig portraying the secret agent for the final time in No Time To Die.

A debate has also been raging over whether the next Bond should be a woman.
