War Sailor, a movie that was co-produced by a Maltese company, and currently nominated for the Oscars, is showing in local cinemas right now.

Local production company Falkun Films worked together with Rohfilm Factory to produce what would become Norway’s official submission to the upcoming Oscars.

Over 350,000 people have gone to see it in Norway to date, and it has now premiered at Malta’s Eden Cinemas for local viewers to enjoy.

“As Falkun Films we are extremely proud to have collaborated on this film. It is a story with heart, a story that matters,” Anika Psaila Savona told Lovin Malta.

“War unfortunately still happens, so this story is still very relevant today. Co-productions are the way forward for the growth of the film industry in Malta. Resources are pooled together and through co-productions, Maltese filmmakers, cast, and crew can grow and a real industry can be developed.”

Based on true events, the story was written by Gunnar Vikene, who also took care of the direction for the movie.

The production was led by Maria Ekerhovd of Mer Films. The Maltese producers who contributed are Pierre Ellul and Anika Psaila Savona.

Apart from the premiere, which took place on 13th November, another five screenings altogether during the Month of European Film, an initiative of the European Film Academy in partnership with Europa Cinemas will take place.
