A new Colombian film called ‘Malta’ has been released, and it’s all about a young woman who dreams of escaping her life in Bogotá and travelling to the Mediterranean island.

Written and directed by Natalia Santa, ‘Malta’ premiered at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas earlier this month.

The plot revolves around a young woman called Mariana who works at a call centre in Bogotá but dreams of travelling the world, starting with Malta. An official trailer even shows Mariana scrolling through Old Bakery Street, Valletta, on Google Maps.

However, an unexpected relationship with an old classmate called Gabriel forces her to confront the underlying reasons behind her desire to escape.

The film features Estefanía Piñeres, Patricia Tamayo, Emmanuel Restrepo, and Diego Cremones and is already garnering some rave reviews.
