From Earth Garden To A Game Of Thrones Parody, The First Weekend Of June Has A Lot In Store For Malta

Another week has come, taken away our peace, restfulness and mental stability, and then disappeared into the void leaving us all tired and on edge.

Thankfully, some great people have decided to organise exciting events and parties that will delay that emotional breakdown of yours for another week, and who doesn’t love the idea of that? And it’s all happening in Malta just in time for the anticipated switch from May to June!

Thursday 30th May

1. Earth Garden

We’re kicking our weekend list off early this week, because it just really that eventful.

The now iconic weekend-long event that excites, amuses and inebriates people every year is back for another year of memories that may or may not include dancing, music, alcohol and copious amounts of love.

Many promoters will be there throughout the weekend with their performers, including Pudina on Thursday, Electroniche and Disorder on Friday, Statix and Unfocused on Saturday, and OTR on Sunday, and live acts like Xtruppaw on Thursday night and 215Collective on Saturday afternoon!

2. Have a slice of fun

At a pizza party in 1926 Beach Club. Yes, you read that right.

While your diet might not enjoy this one, we all know you weren’t obeying it anyway, so stop pretending that you’ve been eating kale for the last three weeks and cut yourself loose.

Enjoy the free flowing pizza (!!), revel in the disco-house music backdrop, and forget all about that summer body you’ve been dreaming of.

Friday 31st May

3. GOT-ta go fast

No, this event is not a crossover between Sonic and Game of Thrones, because (a) that would be the most cursed production ever and (b) that would be the most cursed production ever. What’s actually going on is a lot more enjoyable.

This Friday is the opening night of GoT in 60 Mins: The Unauthorised Parody, a short yet hilarious rundown of the whole show written by Chris Dingli that features Lovin Malta’s very own Steffie Weenik. So if you weren’t going before, you now have to or you’re a fake fan #ThatsTheTea

In all (or some) seriousness, tickets for all seven shows are selling out fast, so make sure you grab one as soon as possible.

4. A ghostly stroll in the capital

If spooky and creepy are your cup of tea, or you’re a sceptic who likes to likes to rain on other people’s parades, you might enjoy this tour of Valletta‘s most haunted streets and locations while listening to some spine-chilling stories.

5. A Vox-full of excitement

For six days throughout the month of June, Spazju Kreattiv will be showing the incredible 2018 film Vox Lux, which features Academy Award Winner Natalie Portman and Academy Award Nominee Jude Law.

The film is highly rated by both critics and fans alike and is deemed as one of Portman’s best performances to date, so make sure you don’t miss out!

6. For those who love metal, a legend is coming

You definitely need to check out Dee Snider, lead singer of world-famous metal band Twisted Sister, set the Aria Complex alight with his powerful and distinctive vocals.

We’re looking forward to hearing some of his band’s best hits, such as We’re Not Going To Take It and Burn In Hell.

7. Bigger and better for week two, because it’s definitely better together

After the massive success of their opening night last week Sound Salon and G7 are back for a second week with more artists, more music, and much more fun to be had.

The event is being held in the Gianpula Village and will see clubbers throughout the rest of summer. We’ve made it!

Saturday 1st June

8. Champions League Frenzy

The Champion’s League Final is taking place this Saturday and numerous places will be hosting events and parties where you can watch along with others. Some of these include:

  1. Surfside
  2. Attard Sports Bar
  3. Hugo’s Pub – St Julian’s
  4. Crust Bakery (Bonus: This one is also a BBQ)

9. A pasta-filled evening

For those of you who enjoy killing your diet, IMPACT is hosting a Pasta Buffet where patrons can enjoy three types of pasta; Bolognese, Chicken and Bacon with White Sauce and the classic Pesto.

10. This night will not be a cat-astrophe

Sure, that might have been the worst pun I’ve made in a while, but you know what’s not terrible? The new beach club Nine Lives which is throwing its opening party this Saturday in St. Paul’s Bay.

Chill by the beach while listening to some great music and enjoying the sounds of Maltese seaside. Summer is here y’all.

11. More opening nights, more local heavyweights

UNO Malta is hosting the opening night of local DJ Ziggy who will be a resident at their club all summer long, so go out and show your support for him by attending his first show, and any others you have the time to visit.

Sunday 2nd June

12. It’s World Bicycle Day!

And Malta’s Bicycle Advocacy Group is hosting a family-friendly bike ride to celebrate.

Participants will be meeting in Ta’ Qali and travelling through Attard, Balzan, Birkirkara and Mosta. Also, if you’re one of the first 100 to apply, you’ll be given a free backpack, so hurry and book your spot!

13. An open-air rave in a proper summer hideout

“Get used to it, it’s officially a thing now.”

The Yard is a party located in a ‘secret’ park in the heart of Malta’s nightlife. Spend your Sunday evenings with amazing DJs, exciting music and people from all around at this free, open-air event courtesy of the Bunker Rave peeps. Berlin meets San Ġiljan!

15. The return of the greats

Easily one of the best Maltese bands ever is returning to the stage at Earth Garden this Sunday. And I know we already spoke about Earth Garden, but Brikkuni deserve their own spot because, I mean; it’s Brikkuni!

Closing the Roots Stage in what should be another absolutely jaw-dropping performance, Brikkuni will be sharing some of their new songs… including that beautifully catchy tune Aħfirli Missier Għax Ser Nerġa which they released a couple of days ago.

Tag a friend who needs to take you to one of these events!
