First of all, one very important point: there are no spoilers ahead.
20 million people reportedly tuned in to watch Game of Thrones’ much-hyped final episode on Sunday night, but by yesterday, that number definitely increased as audiences extended to all around the world. And while a worryingly large number of those people are actually very angry at how the show ended, what’s the situation like back in Malta?
Much has been said about GOT’s Season 8. In fact, we’re pretty sure everything has already been said. Memes have been shared, viral videos of people shouting at their TVs have done the rounds, and there’s even a petition going round to remake the entire season that’s already exceeded a million signatures. Yes, that’s more than double the entire population of Malta.
The petition, which is currently sitting on some 1.3 million signatures, blasts the series’ creators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff as “woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material”
And while Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) has called the reaction “disrespectful”, with Kit Harington (Jon Snow) following it up by saying critics need to “go fuck themselves”, it’s still got to sting to have hundreds of thousands of fans hate every single decision you make when the whole world is watching.
How Weiss and Benioff must be feeling on the inside right about now
But what does the Maltese audience think? We all know at least a dozen people who have been religiously watching the TV show ever since its producers landed in Malta nearly a whole decade ago, so how about we gauge what the island indirectly involved in Season 1 thinks of Season 8?

P.S. There isn’t an option for “I don’t watch Game of Thrones” because if you don’t, what the hell are you doing here?
