Welcome To Melita Region: Maltese Artist Creates Pokemon Inspired By Malta

Article Featured Image

Are you a fan of Pokemon games? Have you ever wondered what a Maltese region would look like and what sort of digital critters would inhabit this hypothetical land?

These questions were asked by local artist Daniel Cutajar who cleverly and brilliantly put this imagination to the test while designing and writing these characters who perfectly encapsulate all aspects of Maltese society from cuisine to even politics! In this so called “Melita Region”.

Some of the highlights from his artworks include “meroll”  who is heavily inspired by blue rock thrush or locally known as the “merill” which is the national bird of the islands who then later evolves into “basalcon” which is also a national symbol for the Maltese islands.

Another favourite is the evolutionary line of “torrafin” a Pokemon inspired by the dolphins that happily swim around the islands who later evolves into the brilliantly named “denkorrot” who is based on the current political climate of the island and more exclusively certain politicians in our nation’s history.

In their “Pokedex entry” it states that “Denkorrot are notoriously opportunistic Pokemon who will do anything no matter how cruel, should it benefit them. This has made them disliked by most and respected by some.”

The artist is currently still on-going with this project as he is constantly updating the page @melitaregion with constant artworks of other Maltese inspired Pokemon.

Which one is your favourite?
