From rescued baby ducks to the thickest pigs around, Instagram has seen the birth of some of the weirdest and most wonderful social media stars around. And among all of those lies a wandering, globe-trotting astronaut. And he’s just landed in Malta.

The Wandering Astronaut (because why try to come up with any other name?) has been regularly uploading photos in front of popular landmarks, mainly around the US. And last week, the astronaut announced his arrival to the tiny island of Malta.  What followed were five photos uploaded from random landmarks on the island. 

The first post was at the sprawling hall of the Knights Hospitaller in Valletta, where the astronaut, bearing the name ‘Conrad’ on his chest, said he’d be “going on a little (get it?) adventure”. Soon enough, Conrad was posing in front of what was once the Azure Window, the Ġgantija Temples, the Mdina gate and bak to Valletta’s for the Grandmaster’s Palace.

The Wandering Astronaut’s protagonist is actually an action figure of American NASA astronaut Pete Conrad. 

Commander of the Apollo 12 mission and the third man to walk on the Moon, Conrad was known for his sense of humour (his first words on the Moon were literally a joke).

Conrad died in 1999, and has since then inspired a great deal of people. In fact, a Facebook page dedicated to this quirky action figure project states that it’s dedicated to “all space men from past, present and future.”

Little Conrad has already amassed nearly 200 photos of his adventure, posing in front of everything from the St. Louis Gateway Arch in Missuori to Idaho.
