5 Fabulous Reasons Everyone In Malta Needs To Watch Netflix’s New Queer Eye

Attention readers over the age of 22: don’t worry – you’re not trapped in some weird time machine. The cult classic ‘Queer Eye’ is indeed back and ready to take the world by storm… again.

With an all new cast and some new life lessons, a new run of the show is being hosted by Netflix, and it is slowly climbing to the top of many viewers’ list of favourites.

If you haven’t seen the show yet, here’s five fabulous reasons to start.

1. Many Maltese people could use the lifestyle tips

From styling advice to help your wardrobe stand out, to making the best use of the space in your home, it’s never too late to learn something new.

Maltese people tend to avoid taking risks or changing up their look, so this show might give them the confidence to put on a different shirt or splurge on a new haircut.

Also, the tips the Fab 5 stick with you for a lot longer than you think. If you’ve ever said: ‘spray, delay and walk away’ when putting on perfume, you probably don’t even know you’re quoting the original series from over 10 years ago.

2. And we rarely take the time to self-examine

This show focuses heavily on the social aspect of change, not just the physical. Adjusting people’s mindsets, learning new skills and teaching people that opening up is healthy not weak is probably more important than changing their shoes and showing them 16 ways to use an avocado.

Emotional literacy is something the Maltese struggle with quite badly, and a show like this could help people self-analyse in a way they may not have considered before.

3. It’s amazing television

Even if you’re not in it for the tips or the change, the whole show makes for some captivating viewing and at-work conversation over lunch. If I tell you I cried like four times during the season, I’d be lying… cos it’s probably closer to six.

4. It’s an awesome representation of what it means to be gay in 2018

The first run of the show was an amazing way to have gay representation in the media, but something about this new remake just feels more authentic. The Fab 5’s personalities are real, and highlight the fact that being gay doesn’t define who you are.

In Malta we’ve seen a lot of progress when it comes to the legal rights of LGBT+ people, but socially the change hasn’t really come about. Seeing five relatable characters on TV

5. It teaches tolerance of different opinions

If five liberal, gay guys can help a devoted Trump supporter change his life, become his friend and get excited to see him happy, then why do the Maltese struggle so much with it.

The show really emphasises the fact that you don’t always need to see eye-to-eye on everything to treat each other civilly or even become friends.

Whether it’s politics, religion or any other belief, Malta has some serious lessons to learn on making friends and being nice to those you may not always agree with.

So… what are you waiting for?
