Asthma Attacks Are Most Common Among Those Living In Malta’s Central Areas

The majority of those who visit the Mater Dei hospital for asthma-related reasons live in the Northern Harbour district and other central areas.
These regions include Gżira, Msida, Pembroke, Pietà, San Ġiljan, San Ġwann, Sliema, Swieqi, Ta’ Xbiex, Birkirkara, Ħamrun, Qormi, and Santa Venera.
According to data, Gozitans are the least likely to go to a hospital due to asthma.

2018 saw a huge number of people (533) admitted to Mater Dei due to asthma when compared to other years.
During the pandemic years, many were working from home, which led to only 296 people who went to the hospital for this specific reason.
The age group most admitted to the hospital due to asthma is between 65-74 years old, as seen in the table below.

These details were unveiled through a Parliamentary question filed by PN MP, Albert Buttigieg, for Health Minister Chris Fearne.
