Breakthrough Support: Parkinson’s And Huntington’s Patients Receive Vital Medications

2,058 patients are benefiting from Parkinson’s medication and 149 are receiving treatment for the rare condition of Huntington’s Disease.

In response to a separate question about how many individuals are benefiting from POYC-supplied medication for Huntington’s Disease, Dr Abela stated that approximately 149 patients are receiving this medication, which is included in the POYC formulary.

Minister Abela also reported that there are currently around 2,058 patients living with Parkinson’s Disease who are benefiting from medication provided through the POYC scheme.

Furthermore, at the end of 2024, the Ministry for Health and Active Ageing, in collaboration with the organisation Step-Up for Parkinson’s, signed a bilateral agreement to offer further assistance to Maltese and Gozitan patients living with this condition.

In response to a separate question about medication supplied through the POYC scheme for patients with the rare condition of Huntington’s Disease, Dr Abela confirmed that approximately 149 patients are benefiting from this treatment, which is part of the POYC list.
