DaVinci Health Urges MAM To Reconsider Directives On A&E Initiative
DaVinci Health has raised serious concerns over recent directives issued by the Medical Association of Malta (MAM), which instruct union members at Mater Dei Hospital to avoid advising or facilitating patient transfers to private hospitals.
Instead, the directive calls for all patients to be admitted directly to Mater Dei, regardless of the hospital’s ongoing capacity challenges.
DaVinci Health, along with two other private healthcare providers, had voluntarily stepped up to support Mater Dei’s Accident & Emergency Department.
The plan was straightforward: handle minor emergency cases at private facilities, reducing patient waiting times and freeing up Mater Dei’s resources to focus on more critical cases.
Backed by significant investments in state-of-the-art facilities, DaVinci was ready to roll out these services after securing the contract through a public procurement process.
However, MAM’s directive has now effectively brought this collaboration to a halt.
This move comes at the worst possible time, as seasonal illnesses push Mater Dei to its limits, leaving A&E waiting times longer than ever.
DaVinci Health has described the timing of this decision as “regrettable,” warning that it will likely lead to further strain on patient care when the system is already under immense pressure.
“Directives should be used as a last-resort measure,” DaVinci said in a statement, urging MAM to reconsider its stance.
The healthcare provider also called on the association to engage in constructive dialogue with the Ministry for Health and Active Ageing to find a swift resolution in the best interest of all patients.
