Health Minister Jo Etienne Abela has announced a new initiative aimed at reducing overcrowding in the emergency department at Mater Dei Hospital.

Since assuming office six months ago, Abela has been developing patient-centred solutions to enhance the efficiency of emergency services.

A key aspect of this strategy involves partnering with private hospitals to handle some of the patient load, a move that will be funded by the government.

This approach not only alleviates pressure on Mater Dei but also leverages the capabilities of the private sector to improve overall healthcare delivery.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to create a more effective emergency department, prioritising patient welfare in healthcare reforms.

A call for interest has been issued to private entities willing to collaborate on this transformative project, which can be accessed through the Health Services website.
