Mater Dei Experiencing Debilitating Bed Shortage With Patients Enduring Extreme Waiting Times

Individuals requiring surgery for a fractured bone are experiencing delays of up to three days at Mater Dei Hospital.
Times of Malta reported that those in emergency situations have had to endure waits of up to 10 hours on stretchers due to the hospital’s persistent bed shortage.
Insiders revealed that Mater Dei is currently exceeding its bed capacity, prompting the use of what staff refer to as “makeshift wards”, which were not originally designated to cater for patients.
To make way for other patients, expectant mothers are being advised to go to hospital on their induction day and not the day prior, as is usually customary.
Lovin Malta reached out to the Ministry for Health, but received no response as of yet.
