September is Suicide Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness, break the stigma, and remind anyone who’s struggling that they are not alone.

Every year, more than 700,000 people lose their lives to suicide worldwide, that’s one person every 40 seconds. In Malta too, families and communities are affected, but change starts when we choose to speak openly and support one another.

This month is all about creating hope through action, whether that’s checking in on a friend, sharing resources, or simply reminding someone that they matter. Even the smallest act of kindness can save a life.

10th September is World Suicide Prevention Day, a global moment to stand together and push back against the silence and stigma around mental health.

If you or someone you know needs help in Malta:

  • 179 (Supportline) – 24/7 support for anyone in crisis.
  • 1770 (Richmond Foundation) – professional mental health support.
  • Kellimni.com – confidential chat & phone support, especially for young people.
  • Crisis Resolution Malta (9933 9966) – offers urgent mental health crisis support.

  • Victim Support Malta (2122 8333) – support for victims of crime, abuse, or trauma.

  • In an emergency: dial 112.

This month, let’s remember:

It’s okay not to be okay, and it’s always okay to ask for help.
