Victim Support Malta Launches Cyber Abuse Therapy Service

Victim Support Malta (VSM) is launching a new Cyber Abuse Therapy Service (CATS) — a specialised support programme aimed at helping individuals and families recover from the emotional and psychological impact of cybercrime.
As digital technology becomes increasingly embedded in our daily lives, so too does the risk of cyber abuse. From identity theft, scams and fraud, and revenge porn, to online harassment, amongst many others, victims of cybercrime often experience deep emotional distress, shame, and isolation.
In response to this growing concern, VSM has developed CATS to offer free emotional support by means of psychotherapy, counselling, family therapy and psychiatry to those affected by cyber-enabled and cyber-dependent crimes.
In addition to therapeutic services, victims will also have the possibility of accessing one legal consultation to help them understand their rights and possible next steps. This integrated approach makes it possible for victims to receive the emotional and practical support they need to begin the healing process, where they may otherwise struggle to move forward.
Later this year, VSM will be holding information sessions on cybercrime within local communities, launching a 10-week therapy group programme for those who have been affected by cybercrime, to foster community healing, learn from one another, and reduce the stigma which comes with experiencing cyber crime. Further details will be shared at a later date.
Anyone who has experienced any form of cybercrime is encouraged to reach out to access support through the Cyber Abuse Therapy Service within VSM. You can call on 21228333, email on [email protected], or fill in the referral form at victimsupport.org.mt.
Victim Support Malta is a Non-Governmental Organisation dedicated to providing free, confidential support services to victims of crime. VSM offers therapeutic and psychological support, legal information, and practical assistance to help victims affected by trauma to recover and regain control of their lives.
This project has been funded through the Voluntary Organisations Project Scheme (VOPS) managed by the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector (MCVS) supported by the Ministry for Inclusion and the Voluntary Sector (MIV)
