The Minister for Social and Affordable Housing, Roderick Galdes and the Minister for Health and Active Ageing, Jo Etienne Abela, this morning inaugurated the “Professor Albert Fenech Health Clinic” in the Silvio Parnis Building in Siġġiewi.

With agreement between the two ministries, this clinic was named after the late Professor Albert Fenech. This is in tribute to the memory and work of Prof. Fenech, a professor and cardiologist born in Siġġiewi, who for many years provided outstanding service to many patients.

Minister Roderick Galdes stated that this government is not only providing social accommodation with secure and dignified housing for beneficiaries, “but we are also implementing a holistic social vision.” He explained that thanks to this vision, today we are seeing a significant number of families, including the residents of the Silvio Parnis Building—a social housing project of this government—making use of the services that this new health clinic is offering in the heart of the Siġġiewi community.

The Minister expressed satisfaction that this project is not only supporting the families residing in this building but also the wider Siġġiewi residents, who can now receive clinical health services at a new, high-quality clinic.

On his part, Minister for Health and Active Ageing, Jo Etienne Abela, explained that the number of community clinics has now reached 30. He remarked that, from the beginning of the year until now, health centers across the country have seen around 600,000 people and the community clinics have served around 70,000 people.

Minister Abela also noted that these clinics will offer a holistic program based on preventive care. This clinic will provide services such as family doctor consultations, speech and language pathology for both adults and children, as well as podiatry and physiotherapy.

“This clinic will serve around 10,000 residents of Siġġiewi, as well as people living in the surrounding areas,” Minister Abela stated.

“Primary healthcare is one of the pillars of health in our country and we are committed to continuing to strengthen medical care at the heart of the community to be closer to the patient,” Minister Abela concluded.
