New MRI Machine Unveiled In Gozo To Enhance Healthcare Services
A new MRI machine has been inaugurated at the Gozo General Hospital, backed by a €3 million investment from the Ministry for Health and Active Ageing, led by Minister Jo Etienne Abela.
Minister Abela stated that this investment has facilitated the installation of a state-of-the-art 3.0 Tesla MRI machine at the Gozo General Hospital, marking it as the most advanced MRI technology available in the country.
Since March, the portable MRI machine has conducted around 2,700 scans, with approximately 70% of these being performed on Gozo patients.
The Minister explained that following six months of dedicated work, the necessary extensions have been made to accommodate this machine. He emphasised that this new equipment will significantly improve the radiology services offered in Gozo, as it allows for detailed diagnostics across various parts of the body and enables specialised MRIs, including those of the brain, heart, prostate, spine, liver and kidneys. This machine will also aid in the early detection of tumours.
Minister Abela expressed gratitude to the multidisciplinary team that will oversee this service, noting that Gozitans will now have the opportunity to receive treatment locally, eliminating the need to travel to Malta for medical tests.
“This is yet another investment that demonstrates the government’s commitment to the health sector and the patients of Gozo. We are dedicated to continuing our efforts to enhance healthcare services in Gozo and Malta, ensuring the highest quality of care,” concluded Minister Jo Etienne Abela.
