PN: Malta’s Health System Suffered Total Collapse At The Hands Of Labour

Malta’s health system is suffering a “total collapse” at the hands of Robert Abela’s government, a group of PN heavyweights have warned.

PN leader Bernard Grech joined MPs Adrian Delia and Stephen Spiteri outside Mater Dei this morning to speak about the state of Malta’s hospitals and healthcare system, which suffered great blows due to a “lack of planning, investment, planning and long-term vision”.

“We’re receiving messages from people who have been waiting two to three years to get an operation. I’ve had one woman say she was sent home twice because operation theatres were full,” Grech said.

“There’s also a shortage of medicine, basics like antibiotics. A lack of proper mental health services, an outpatient block, and a hospital system that can actually care for patients’ needs properly. Instead of dealing with these issues, the Labour Party gave millions to Steward.”

The Maltese population is suffering the “greatest casualties” because of Prime Minister Robert Abela’s indecisiveness, Adrian Delia, who won a landmark case against the Vitals-Steward hospital deal, added.

“This is the fruit of Robert Abela’s indecisiveness and the corruption and fraudulence of the Labour Party. In six years, €400 million were stolen from the people of Malta. We were promised a world-class health service. Not only did we suffer €400 million being stolen from us and lack of investment but we’re seeing the absolute collapse of our health system,” he said.

PN Shadow Health Minister Stephen Spiteri said that the ultimate price is being paid by health workers and patients alike.

“We don’t have the necessary infrastructure. Mater Dei is overloaded. Every ward is crowded. All workers are suffering from burnout.” he said.

“We can’t even call an emergency room an emergency room anymore when the waiting time is five to six hours.”
