A public consultation has been launched for a strategy aimed at promoting physical activity that leads to better health outcomes. During a press conference, Minister Jo Etienne Abela and Minister Clifton Grima introduced the strategy titled “A Strategy for Health-Enhancing Physical Activity.”

The vision behind this strategy is to raise awareness among all citizens about the importance of incorporating physical activity into daily life, which in turn leads to improved individual health.

It was explained that the successful implementation of such a strategy requires collective effort to ensure that everyone has the knowledge and opportunities to engage in more physical activity. From a young age, a culture of physical activity must be nurtured so that it becomes an integral part of daily life.

Minister for Health and Active Aging, Jo Etienne Abela, highlighted how the benefits of physical activity span across a lifetime. He emphasised the importance of working together as a community to improve physical health. He called for continued promotion and increased awareness of the benefits of physical activity, making it an essential part of everyday life.

“Let’s work together to cultivate a culture where physical activity becomes an integral part of our lives, leading to a healthier community,” concluded Minister Abela.

Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research, and Innovation, Clifton Grima, stressed the importance of physical activity for health and the role the education sector plays in this area. “Promoting physical activity is not just the responsibility of the Ministry of Health; it is a responsibility that must be shared by all governmental and social entities, as well as every individual,” stated Minister Grima.

“We need to ensure that every child has enough time during the school day to participate in physical activity and stay active—both as part of formal physical education and in combination with other learning materials. It is crucial that these institutions also develop programmes that promote physical activity, as the attitude towards physical activity should be strengthened throughout life,” Minister Grima concluded.
