Doctors For Choice Hit Back At Pro-Life Activist With Some Simple Adoption Calculations

Pro-choice NGO Doctors For Choice has strongly hit back at a pro-life activist who argued that decriminalising abortion would quell the dreams of couples who want to adopt.

And they did this by providing some quick calculations.

“Let’s do some maths, shall we?”

“365 abortion pill packs were sent to Malta last year. Now let’s assume that all abortions with pills will stop and instead the babies will be given up for adoption.”

“Over 10 years that’s 365 x 10 = 3,650 extra children that will need adoption. How many were actually adopted over the last 10 years? 27 [Maltese children]. So what will happen to the other 3,623 children? Orphanages, poverty, and misery.”

They further added that legal contraception also reduces birth-rates and that forcing women to continue their pregnancy “so there are more children to give out is disgusting and reduces women to de facto human livestock.”

This comes as a response to Alexander Camilleri, a 16-year-old boy who was adopted, said that he wouldn’t be here if his parents had aborted him.

During a debate on ONE TV’s Awla last night, he further argued that legalising abortion will “terminate the dreams of all those couples who wish to adopt”.
