Watch: Is Abortion Murder? Peppi Azzopardi Faces Nine Pro-Choice Youths In First Episode Of The Hot Seat
Peppi Azzopardi is officially in the hot seat, going head-to-head with nine pro-choice youths on one of Malta’s most divisive issues: abortion.
This marks the launch of Hot Seat, a bold new debate series by Lovin Malta and FreeHour, where young people challenge prominent local figures on Malta’s most controversial topics.
And what a start. In the very first episode, Peppi presents four prompts – including the claims that abortion is murder and that women don’t have absolute rights over their bodies. Needless to say, the room was fired-up and an impassioned debate followed.
How it works:
Each of the four statements gets 12 minutes. To participate, guests race to the seat opposite Peppi. After one minute, anyone seated can raise a red flag if they strongly disagree with the argument being made. If a majority do, the race restarts and someone new takes the hot seat.
Peppi made an especially compelling guest – firmly believing that a foetus is a human being, yet opposing punishment or imprisonment for women who get abortions. So… what does justice look like?
