Malta’s Northern Region Watches A Whole Lot Of Porn – But People In The Harbour Area Are Busy Getting Busy

People in the North of Malta like to watch quite a lot of porn – but people in the southern harbour area seem to be kept too busy for porn by having actual sex.

Data collection and statistical analysis conducted by Sagalytics and Sex Clinic Malta has found that from a sample of 400 individuals extracted from a larger 15,000 participant study, almost half – 44% – are very satisfied with their sexual lives.

More than a third – 34.1% – reported being satisfied with their sexual life.

Results from this early portion of the study – which was conducted through data collection over phone calls – surveyed roughly equal numbers of men and women and tried to balance its findings by ensuring that those included would be representative of Malta’s age demographics.

Just over half of respondents – 53% – watch or have watched porn, and around the same proportion said they occasionally masturbate alone.

Amongst those who watch porn and have a partner, 74% said their partner knows about their erotica habits.

Interestingly, people in the North are apparently more likely to watch porn than those in the south, or in Gozo. At the very least, those in the North may have been more prepared to talk about their porn habit with strangers on the phone.

This could be what accounts for the disparity, but another possibility could be found if responses were cross referenced with nationality data – given that the North of Malta is home to the largest proportion of non-Maltese residents.

Maybe there’s something about Maltese culture which makes us less willing to admit intimate details to strangers on the phone – even with the promise of anonymity.

Just 40% of Gozitans participating in the study told surveyors that they watched porn.

In terms of sexual intercourse, the study found that the average sexually active person in Malta has sex six times a month.

The most sexually active people in Malta live in the southern harbour area. Something about the salty air is bumping their numbers up to an average eight times a month.

While all of these figures might lead some to believe that birth rates in Malta are about to shoot through the roof, the source of our overpopulation doesn’t seem to be our attitude towards sex, as just 0.5% necessarily associate that ‘sex’ with ‘reproduction’.

The study also found – despite progress in terms of acceptance of LGBTQIA values in Malta over the past few years – that almost 10% of respondents still defined sex as a ‘sexual act between a male and a female’.

Sexual myths and mistruths remain pervasive in our society, despite the efforts of those seeking to spread awareness about equally natural and healthy sexual lifestyles and realities.

Just under 30% of the oldest survey respondents – those who are 66 and over –  said that they watch porn.

Sadly, those within this group are amongst the least likely to be satisfied with their sexual life, and tend to have sex the least, despite almost half saying that they would like to have more sex.

This study sought to destigmatise talking about sex across the board – but particularly when it comes to discussing the sexual habits and appetites of older people.

It is entirely natural for people of any age to like, enjoy and desire sexual contact, so Sex Clinic Malta wanted to use this study as a way of highlighting an area which has is often left to  unspoken taboos and hushed tones.
