Watch: Dignified Killing Or Destined To Be Abused? Euthanasia Debated In The Hot Seat

The chairman of the Life Network Foundation sat in the hot seat and faced five outspoken voices on the controversial issue of euthanasia.

Tonio Fenech, an avid critic of high-level talks to legalise euthanasia, made his case as five debaters raced to explain why they believe assisted voluntary euthanasia should move from conversation to legislation.

This marks the third episode of Hot Seat, a debate series by Lovin Malta and FreeHour, where young people challenge prominent local figures on Malta’s most controversial topics.

How it works:

Each of the three statements gets 20 minutes. To participate, guests race to the seat opposite Tonio. After three minutes, anyone seated can raise a red flag if they strongly disagree with the argument being made. If a majority do, the race restarts and someone new takes the seat.

Tonio was certain in his belief that legalising euthanasia would open the door to callous abuse. Meanwhile, his adversaries maintained that one’s death should be a dignified, personal choice.

Did they reach a middle ground?

Well, you’ll have to watch the episode to find out.
