If you were born in 2005, 2006 or 2007, you can now officially register for a free six-month gym membership, fully covered by the government.

The initiative, announced in last year’s Budget, was formally launched today by Prime Minister Robert Abela together with Bulletproof at the Mediterranean College of Sport in Birkirkara.

Registrations opened this morning through youthfitness.gov.mt, where eligible youths aged 18 to 20 can apply to get access to a participating gym of their choice.

Described as a historic moment for the fitness industry, the scheme makes Malta the first country in the world to offer free gym memberships nationwide to an entire age group.

So if you’ve been waiting for a sign to start building a fitness habit this could be your sign to do so.

What do you make of this initiative?
