WHO And Malta Discuss Health Initiatives In Denmark
In Denmark, the Minister for Health and Active Aging, Jo Etienne Abela, held meetings with the Regional Director of the World Health OrganiSation (WHO), Dr. Hans Kluge, and the Directors of its Executive Board.
During these meetings, various collaboration topics were discussed, including mental health care, non-communicable diseases, digital health, active aging, palliative care and long-term care.
Minister Jo Etienne Abela mentioned that in recent weeks, Malta launched a reform for mental health care and initiated a public consultation on non-communicable diseases. Regarding elderly care, Minister Abela explained that in recent years, Malta has made significant strides, introducing numerous community services, both clinical and new day centres. He also mentioned ongoing work on the implementation of the National Dementia Strategy and the National Active Aging Strategy.
“In the health sector, Malta is working not only to comply with WHO’s vision but also to be a pioneer, encouraging other countries to follow in our footsteps in certain areas of health care,” concluded Minister Abela.
For his part, the Regional Director, Dr. Hans Kluge, praised Malta’s efforts in the health sector, particularly the support and assistance the country is providing to victims in Gaza. Dr. Hans Kluge noted that Malta’s vision for the health sector aligns with the WHO’s vision for implementation in the European region.
